Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in a group of Iraqi obese children attending children welfare teaching hospital

Background: Although liver biopsy is the gold standard method for diagnosing and staging non-alcoholic fatty disease (NAFLD), majority of patients can be effectively diagnosed non-invasively with tests that are routinely available in clinic today as abdominal ultrasound. Aim study: to study prevalence NAFLD a complication among obese children some its related variables. Patients methods: A cross-sectional case-control was conducted on 71 cases an age range 2-15 years medical city Baghdad from 1st September 2014 2015. Obese were selected according their Body Mass Index which should 97th centile Center Disease Control Prevention growth charts. We depended ultrasound look FLD. Results; Most school-age. Of these 17 (23.9%) pre-hypertensive 10 (14.1%) hypertensive so obesity significantly correlated increased blood pressure. Bone advanced 38 (53.5%) meaning it had obvious correlation obesity. Formula-fed 20 (28.2%). Family history 51 (71.8%). FLD children; group; FLDr 25 (35.2%). Males 19 (76%). In 8 (32%) them hypertensive. 18 (72%) them. Ten (40%) formula fed. Total serum bilirubin 3 (12%). Alanine aminotransferase Aspartate 13 (52%)were elevated. (52%) elevated Fasting glucose. Four (16%) Triglyceride levels. All values more than without Conclusions; Non-alcoholic associated significant comorbid conditions they have hypertension lipid profile.
